OverviewSpam Bots will always be able to spam if they are in your server. It doesn’t matter if they can see the member list or not. As long as they are in, even while waiting on a “verification” process they will spam, all they need is a user id.
With Bouncer we decided to solve this problem by forcing every user to verify outside of your Discord server! That means no spam bot in your server, and thus no spam bot can spam your users through DMs!
To do this we send every joining user a unique URL where they can verify before kicking them from your server. This happens before any spam bot can start spamming.
The user then has to follow the link where he gets to fill out an HCaptcha and prove that he is a human being and not a bot.
Once he fills the captcha, he is giving a new join link to your server. He can join without being kicked. The link itself is not special, it’s the user that is verified, so no one else can use the invite link. Only he can. A verified user can join your server. User verifications are not shared among servers, so a user that was verified on a different server will not get to skip verifying on your server. This way an account that recently got hacked will not pass verification by simply been previously verified elsewhere.
This whole process takes less than a minute for legit users.
We use this bot on StockDrops, a Discord server with over 100 thousand members, and ever since introducing Bouncer, spam reports have gone down to almost none.
