Is ModMailBot the same as Modmail?

No. Several Discord bots are called Modmail, and ModMailBot is a different one. We run it for you, so there’s nothing to download or host. Members open tickets from a button on your server, not by messaging the bot.

How do members open a ticket?

They press a button on your server’s ticket panel and answer your questions, up to five. A private text channel opens that only they and the staff you chose can see, with their answers already there.

Can members DM the bot to open a ticket?

No. Tickets start from a panel button only, and the bot doesn’t read DMs by design.

What permissions does it ask for?

Six: Manage Channels and Manage Roles, plus Send Messages, Embed Links, Attach Files and Read Message History. Never Administrator. It doesn’t ask to see your channels server-wide: it gives itself access to the channels it sets up, and nothing else.

Does ModMailBot store message content?

No. It reads a ticket’s messages only when the ticket is archived, to build the transcript, and keeps no copy. It stores your settings and a record of each ticket: its IDs, its status, and when it was opened, closed and archived, and by whom.

Are tickets channels or threads?

Text channels, one per ticket, never a thread or forum post. Staff ranks decide who can see, close and archive each type.

What happens if I remove the bot?

Your ticket channels and transcripts stay in your server. The bot’s data is deleted from our database after 30 days, or at once if someone with Manage Server runs /data delete first. Backup copies are gone within 90 days.

Is there a paid tier?

Not currently. Everything in ModMailBot is free.
