One voice at a time. No more talking over each other.

What is Speaking Stick?

Speaking Stick brings the classic talking stick to Discord voice channels. Whoever holds the stick can talk. Everyone else in the channel is automatically server-muted until the stick is passed to them. It isnโ€™t an honor
system: people who donโ€™t hold the stick canโ€™t unmute themselves, so nobody gets interrupted.

Itโ€™s built for any group where everyone deserves a turn:

  • ๐Ÿ“š Study groups and classrooms: one question at a time, and quieter students get heard.
  • ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Debates and panels: timed turns keep things fair.
  • ๐Ÿ’ผ Team stand-ups and club meetings: go around the room in order.
  • ๐ŸŽฒ D&D and tabletop sessions: players take turns describing their actions.
  • ๐Ÿ’ฌ Support circles and community events: a calm space where each person can finish speaking.

โœจ Features

๐ŸŽค Two speaking modes

  • One speaker: a single stick is passed from person to person.
  • Several speakers: the host gives sticks to everyone who should talk at once, which is perfect for panels and co-hosts.

๐Ÿ‘‘ The host is always in control

  • The person who starts the session can give the stick to anyone, take it back, or drop it at any time.
  • They can switch modes in the middle of a session.

๐ŸŸข Open floor

  • Drop the stick and nobody is muted, so itโ€™s a normal conversation.
  • When itโ€™s time for order again, the first person to click Grab the stick takes the floor and everyone else is muted.

โฑ๏ธ Turn timer

  • Set turns of 30 seconds up to 10 minutes.
  • When timeโ€™s up, the stick goes to the next person in the queue, or back to the host if nobody is waiting.

๐Ÿ”„ Rotation

  • Send the stick around the group in an order you choose, with a timed turn for each person.
  • Finished early? Click Next turn to hand it on.

โœ‹ A fair queue with notes

  • Click Request stick and add a short note about what you want to say.
  • Everyone can see whoโ€™s waiting and in what order.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Nobody gets stuck muted

  • People who join mid-session are muted automatically.
  • Anyone the bot muted is unmuted when they leave the channel or the session ends. If theyโ€™ve already disconnected, theyโ€™re unmuted the next time they join voice.
  • Sessions end on their own when the channel empties.

๐Ÿ–ฑ๏ธ Buttons, not just commands

  • A control panel appears in chat with buttons for everything: request, pass, grab, drop, next turn and end.
  • Most people never need to type a command.

๐Ÿš€ Getting started
  1. Add Speaking Stick to your server. It needs the Mute Members permission.
  2. Join a voice channel.
