The Folding@home program utilizes the resources and power of many separate computers from all over the world that are interconnected in order to form a giant supercomputer. This supercomputer allows the Folding@home program to simulate complex protein folding and its effects on diseases like Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s, and Parkinson’s, as well as many forms of cancer. This volunteer-run program not only aims to find treatments for these diseases, but also uncover new ways to efficiently process complex data sets, saving more lives with the help of technology.
